As you might know, I make AMVs. I'm extremely inactive these days, but I've been on hiatus a long time and my new editing program is difficult, so yeah. But y'know, I try.
Anyway.
These days there is something I've noticed a lot of lack:
ORIGINALITY.
Seriously. I'll keep it brief and clear, so that I won't anger myself too much and become irrational and incoherent. Here's my list:
Sony Vegas
Everyone uses it (me, too, since recently, seeing as Windows Movie Maker hated my guts and died on me). Not just because they want to, but simply because you really don't count unless you do.
Textures
Not only is the use of these unoriginal, it's also, in my opinion, lazy. Instead of trying your best at effects, you just smack a texture on un-edited scenes and you're done.
Cross-over couples
Seriously, what is WITH this? At first it WAS original, but now EVERYONE does it. And everyone does the SAME couples, too! Everywhere I go I see CloudYuna and ZackYuna. EVERYWHERE. And it's driving me nuts!
Music
This is the one I hate the most. Once ONE person uses a song (preferably a rather popular Editor), EVERYONE uses it. Recessional by Vienna Teng. Gravity by Sara Bareilles. Glittering Cloud by Imogen Heap. Serenata by Immediate Music. The Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamin. That not enough yet? Man.
Storyline
The fact that people have a story is also an unoriginal 'trend'. Editing used to be picking a song that fitted the game, but now it's making the game fit the song. And though I understand that this is fun, and expands your limits and is very possible due to Sony Vegas' grand expand of effects and whatnot, it's becoming unoriginal because everyone is using the same kinds of storylines. I've also seen people on YouTube creating deviantART accounts so they can post the stories to their AMVs here. It's deviantART, not deviantSTORYLINEDUMP.
Footage
Though not such a major problem, I've seen a pattern. Everyone uses the same footage. And a lot of people use footage of games they've never even played just to make their Channels and videos a whole lot spiffier. As extra footage to support your video; hey, that's fine, I do that too. But don't use main footage of games you've never played before.
You know, let me phrase it like this: Make videos of things that you like, not of things that (you think we think) look good. Don't worry about the expectations of your viewers/subscribers. If they don't love the videos that you love, what do you care? YOU have to make them because YOU like it.
---
Look. I understand that videos, be it effectwise, musicwise or storylinewise, by other people can be inspirational, believe me I do. I've been inspired by other people's vids as well. But is it that hard to be a little original? Is it that hard to create things for yourself instead of 'borrowing' other people's stuff? Making AMVs/GMVs/etc. used to be about having fun with creating a video to a song that fitted your footage. Nobody cared what song you used, and ESPECIALLY not what program you used. Knock it off with the program wars, people. WMM can make amazing videos. Even WMM1, not just WMM2. Some people who are good with WMM can make better and more original videos than people with Sony Vegas.
Other than that, YouTube is becoming an ugly thing, too. Everything is copyright-claimed, the staff changes the layout of EVERYTHING every other day without asking their members first... Everything is going down hill. I'm looking for that cozy community where everyone respected each other. It was there two years ago. Where did it go?
Lastly I'd like to call out to everyone to LOG OUT OF YOUTUBE on JULY 14TH. It's against those hideous BETA CHANNELS, which we never asked for but will get anyway.
That was all, thank you for reading. If you read this all, would you mind commenting? I'd like to know who read this.
x
P.S.: Sometimes during typing this, I went like "AAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!". Frustration.

how did it went?
